Laser Removal of Face & Neck Veins & Red Birthmarks

The most effective methods of reducing or eliminating unsightly or surface veins on the face, chest and neck are vascular laser and Intense Pulsed Light treatments.

How do these treatments work?

The laser and Intense Pulsed Light treatments both work in a similar way. High intensity light is focused selectively on unwanted blood vessels ('surface capillaries') on the face, neck and chest.

The laser light passes through the skin without altering the skin surface and selectively removes blood vessels, returning the skin to its original appearance.

What does the treatment involve?

Eye shields are used during this treatment and ultrasound gel is applied to the area to be treated. The laser pulses produce a stinging sensation. Most people are happy to have the treatment without anaesthetic, but a local anaesthetic cream can be applied to the skin 15-60 minutes before treatment if the patient chooses.

For facial capillaries, two or three treatments are required about one month apart. For extensive lesions, such as vascular birthmarks, more treatments are required to achieve optimal results. As the skin on the neck is more sensitive, it is necessary to use less laser energy. This means that between two and five treatments are required, spaced about six weeks apart.

After treatment, the area is a little puffy and red, generally settling over a few hours. In some people, a slight swelling persists for several days. Ice packs are applied immediately after treatment. This helps reduce swelling and soothes the skin. Make-up can be applied immediately.

WALTER-NOLAN MULTI LASER PROCEDURES

We also offer combination laser treatments, the Walter-Nolan multi laser procedures. These are designed to address unsightly or surface veins on the face, chest and neck as well as other skin conditions due to sun damage such as brown spots, raised senile warts or other small raised benign lumps or tumours and sallow skin. This treatment imparts to the skin a wonderful luster, texture and feel.

Dr Terence Poon, Dr Marianne Nolan, Dr Helena Torpinski and Dr Melanie Brown are skilled and experienced in these procedures and are available for consultation to discuss your requirements or concerns. For an initial consultation, please contact the clinic on 02 9953 9522.
